Position: Senior Consultant
Location: Arlington, Va.
Status: Regular FT / Exempt
Reports to: Project Manager

Purpose: This position plays a key role in providing expert guidance, training, and technical assistance for organizations funded by the Family and Youth Services Bureau's Mentoring Children of Prisoners Program. The role includes the design and implementation of training and technical assistance (TTA) workshops aimed at building mentoring specific skills as well as general organizational development for faith and community based organizations funded through this program. The position also includes conducting on-site technical assistance to approximately 30 organizations across the country with additional technical assistance provided via phone and email. This position will work out of the Arlington, Virginia office of DMT.

Essential Accountabilities:

  • Consulting. Provide face-to-face consulting to Federal program officers and grantees in areas to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Needs Assessment. Develop and conduct needs assessment in areas of organizational and program effectiveness, identify "best-fit" training and technical assistance solutions, identify promising practices, and track performance.
  • Training. Design, develop and implement training for mentoring service providers.
  • Technical Assistance. Develop and provide on-site and remote technical assistance to organizations in areas of elements of mentoring program effectiveness, capacity building, and performance management.
  • Knowledge Management. Identify, capture, and distribute research findings, best practices, and promising innovations, and facilitate peer-to-peer exchange of information.
  • Brand Image. Proactively reinforce DMT's corporate values and image on an on-going basis.
Minimum Qualifications and Profile:

Education:
  • Advanced degree in youth development, social programs, organizational development, or related area.
Experience:
  • Three to five years of experience working with "formal mentoring programs" with one to two years as project manager.
  • Three to five years of direct experience with nonprofit, community-based, and/or faith-based organizations.
  • One to three years working with children and families of the incarcerated.
  • Four years of proven success as a trainer and facilitator.
  • Two years of prior experience in designing and conducting needs assessments.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of "formal mentoring programs" such as Big Brothers Big Sisters.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and oral, including a knack for public speaking and group facilitation.
  • Knowledge of general capacity building, forming strategic partnerships, leveraging and managing resources, building community support, and developing sound programmatic strategies and services.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office products.
  • Able to multi-task effectively.
