DMT's approach to each initiative integrates substantive knowledge and functional expertise within three discrete practice areas:
Faith-based and community organizations. DMT specializes in expanding the scale and effectiveness of faith-based and community organizations. Often, this practice incorporates a range of capacity building services, including venture planning, donor development, and training and technical assistance. Notable successes include
- the development and management of the National Resource Center for the HHS Compassion Capital Fund
- the development of a national leadership development program for urban youth leaders
- church-based disability care programs
- and a variety of large scale faith-based programs serving prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their children.
Youth and family programs. DMT’s expertise in this practice focuses on the development and implementation of high impact, transformational experiences for youth and families who are at risk. Projects include
- the development of educational and employment programs for high school dropouts
- family strengthening programs for prisoners and their families
- micro-enterprise programs for ex-prisoners and their families
- after school programs for urban youth
- and resiliency building programs for traumatized children.
Mentoring high risk populations. Within this practice, DMT concentrates on the development and implementation of mentoring strategies to support the achievement of positive outcomes in the lives of high risk youth and adults. These mentoring strategies may be expressed as stand alone programs, though they are most often embedded within existing social programs. Projects include
- mentoring programs for children of incarcerated parents
- the development of pre-release and aftercare programs for prisoners
- school-based team mentoring programs
- and a variety of resiliency building mentoring programs for high risk youth.
